Squirrel with a charmed life
« on: October 10, 2005, 01:02:31 PM »
I was squirrel hunting in dense woods (oaks, popular & pine) with a few breaks in the canopy. Suddenly a bushytail makes his verson of a broken field run through the tree tops. I swing my 20 ga pump into action.... An owl got to him a spit second before an ounce of #6s  . The shot charge does a number on the owl and the squirrel puts trees between me and my unexpected target   .

I don't mean to hyjack your thread, but that reminds me of something I saw once.

There was this pond made from strip mining coal, we just called them coal pits.  Usually had largemouth bass and channel cats, and good for fishing.  In one spot there was a log laying halfway out of the water, probably a foot in diameter.  This squirrel goes trotting down the log to pick up an acorn that was right next to the edge of the water.  All at once the water swirled and the biggest bass I've ever seen pops up and takes the whole squirrel!

I was just standing there with my mouth hanging open, staring at where the squirrel had been, when the water swirled again.  That bass came up out of the water again, and set an acorn down in the same spot right there on that log...

Okay, maybe that story belongs in "Humor and off-topic"...  :D  :D
