Hi Folks I am new to this site and have taken up handgun hunting after about 20 years of rifle,blackpower and archery hunting almost everything that walks on 4 leggs here in the USA I needed to try something new so I bought a T/C pistol G2 frame and its time to find a barrel. I have been watching ebay for a 357 or 41mag barrel and have not seen the one I wanted yet. Is there a good place to find these used barrels other than ebay? Also who makes good custom barrels? I am going to have one built just like I like cal. and length wise but need something in the mean time since that should take a few months to get.

Depending on what length/configuration you want your barrel to be, a factory 357 should be easy to find - the 41 a little harder.

GB's TC Classifeds is a great place to watch for them - you can even post a "want" ad there. Ed's Contenders is arguably the best place to find used barrels for a good deal, and he's a nice gent to deal with. Custom's I have always selected SSK and Bullberry first, but the SSK's are pricey and lead times have become pretty long from the later - at least 4 months. Have heard nothing but praise for the OTT barrels although I've never had one myself (yet). Mike's work has become so popular that I hear his lead time is as long as Bullberry now though. I also heard the Virgin Valley boys are starting back up, so they may be another source.

This is just my opinion but E-bay is the highest place around to buy a barrel.Sometime you can find one at a fair price.Its great for selling I have seen barrels go for $20-$50 more than a new one.I have bought several barrels from Ed never had a problem.

Welcome aboard!

The Thompson Center custom shop is also a good place to get barrels. Pricing is pretty close to normal retail & they have an excellent selection of calibers. 6 to 8 week wait, but I doubt that is any longer than other custom barrel makers.

I'm new to the T/C scene as well. Best places I have found to buy barrels is Ed's Contenders or the T/C Classifieds right here. Picked up several quality barrels now from both places @ great prices.

E-Bay from my experience is a great place to sell barrels, but I think a good buy there is hard to find. Its definitely a sellers market...

Advice for you guys just getting into T/C.
I find that for shooting T/C off hand I do not like barrels over 10 in. If your shooting from a rest I like the 14 to 16 in. barrels. Long barrels are lot harder to hold off hand.

Thanks for all the help. I found a 6.5" TCA 10mm bull barrel at http://www.contendercache.com/CCList.htm which I bought on the spot vs waiting weeks to have a custom 10mm barrel made. It was just what I was looking for small enough length wise to carry while out on my farm and hunting lease yet powerful enough to deal with a wild hog or deer time to time. I still will mostlikey end up buying a longer 10 or 12 inch 41mag/44mag/45win mag barrel and scopeing it for more serious pistol hunting and longer shooting ranges, but I will have to wait till my next paycheck for that one. I found by putting a WTB post on the T/C classifieds on this site did bring in two very good offers on barrels in just 48hrs which I would like to have also had already started the deal on the 10mm which I bought.
