First Big Game Handgun Kill!
« on: October 10, 2005, 06:32:49 PM »
I went to Wyoming this year for antelope. Opening day all four of us limited out(we had 8 animals hangin'). I shot a little buck in the morning with my rifle and the went out to fill my doe tag that evening. I was carrying my S&W 629 Classic 8 3/8" that I have been practicing with for 2 years. I stalked a heard to within 125yards. I singled out the lead doe and drew a bead on her and touched it off. 2 feet high! I had fooled around a little with my sights before I went and I thought I had it dead on at 100yds but I guess not. She took off on a run and I fired again- same spot. I then decided to compensate by holding low and of course leading her a bit. 3rd shot- POW!...THUNK! She was hit hard. She went and laid down and as I aprouched she sprung up and ran. My next Black Hills 300gr XTP caught her in the back of the head and she did a comlete front flip and hit the ground. I measured the distance of the connecting shot with my Nikon rangefinder- 210 yards! No B.S. and on the run! That bullet hit her about five inches behind the left shoulder leaving a small exit wound- just about perfect! I was so pumped about my first big game handgun kill that I drug her 400yards out of a canyon when I could have easily brought the quad down and got her.
Thanks for listening to my story. God Bless

Way to go, It's a great feeling isn't it
A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at the golf course.
