Ruger chambers rifles in both .25-06 and .257 Roberts.  Winchester's Model 70 is available in both .25WSSM and .25-06.  Remington's Model 700 BDL and CDL come in .25-06.  Weatherby makes both their Mark V and Vanguard available in .257 Weatherby.  Browning's A-bolt is made in .25WSSM.  Savage's 110 and 111 come in .25-06; as do Sako's model 75 and Tikka's T3.  There are probably others as well.  Lot's to choose from.

If by .257 you mean the .257 Roberts, I think Ruger's the only off the shelf choice.

You forgot to add that the Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight and the Browning A-Bolt comes in .25-06.  Lawdog

Thanks for the report.    Yes, I did mean Roberts.  Surprising that Remington or Savage don't carry one of their youth rifles in it.

Might want to ask this over in the Smallbore forum also.  That's where the quarter-bore crowd usually hangs out.

My bad.    I assumed 25 was medium.    My biggest gun is .284.
Apparently, the Ruger is the only new factory gun in the Roberts.   That is a shame.

Thanks,

Small bores start at “to tiny to see with the naked eye”  :)  and go through .257 caliber.  Medium bores(as  in most forums) start at .264(6.5mm) and go through .366(9.3mm) caliber.  Big bores start at .375 and go on through “to heavy to pack”    caliber.  Just thought I would clarify the forum caliber size.  Lawdog

Thanks.     Sure is a lot of talk in the forums about the Roberts for a cartridge that did not sell well.

Actually the .257 Roberts did sell very well until the introduction of the .243 Winchester in 1955.  The .243 isn’t near the cartridge that the Roberts is.  Mainly due to the early factory loading of the Roberts which had the bullet seated deeper in the case so it would fit in actions like the old M30, M722 Remington rifles.  The magazine boxes really needed to be about a 0.25” longer so the longer 117 gr. bullets could be loaded out to where they needed to be.  Lawdog

Well, went to gunshop today and got talked into buying a .257 Weatherby.  This is the Vanguard MOA gun, and it feels good, just hope it shoots better than I can shoot.  Anybody got one, and if so, how do you like it.

Best thing about this transaction is the owner of the shop asked if I was going to handload.  Of course!  Well, he then asks an employee to check and see if the handloads he had in the back would fit the gun.  Just my luck, these don't fit.  He then hands me 120 rounds of 257 Weatherby Mag and tells me to pull the bullets, full length resize and see if they would fit.  And told me to have a good day.

MB525,  I have had one for over 40 years now and I love it more today than ever.  It has always been a blast (pun intended) to shoot and has never let me down.  Mine is very accurate, easy to shoot and just hammers whatever you hit with it.   Though I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, I have killed several elk with it as has my daughter.  Someone in these forums has used the term "Thor's Hammer" to describe their rifle.  It certainly applies to the .257 WBY.  The tougher bullets of today have really made this a most versatile caliber.  I know you will enjoy your new rifle.  BTW, it can be a real reach out and touch someone varminter too with lighter bullets.
You''re only as old as you think you are.....I''m still waiting on puberty, AGAIN!!

MB525,
I bought my dad a Mark V .257 years ago.  It is a real shooter and since he has handed it down to one of the other grandsons.    That boy has never missed with that gun!    A real game getter.
But as a non-reloader, it is very expensive to feed.    I personally have gone to "closer" hunting and less recoil, so I prefer the Bob!

muzzleblast525 –

You are probably just as well off that they did not fit.  Even if they did, I would have pulled the bullets, full-length resized the brass and started fresh.

I got a lefty Mark V Accumark in .257 Wby about a year and a half ago.  Lung shot a button buck last year with factory ammo that fell in its tracks; and, I dropped a young buck last night with handloaded ammo.  With the proper load that gun shoots tighter than a drum, and the 117 grain Sierra Game King dropped that buck like a sack of rocks.  Of course, I hit higher than intended and broke its spine at 100 yards.  Doubt if they make a bullet that won't drop a critter when you break its back.  Doesn't do the tenderloins any good.

Haven't shot the Vanguard, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the .257 Wby.  Sorry Pepaw, but if I could only have one quarter bore, I'd take the Weatherby.  But for a second, if Ruger chambered a lefty rifle in .257 Roberts, I'd get it in a heartbeat.  Don't need the harder kicking 7mm and .30 caliber magnums for the hunting I do.
