string wearing out quickly
« on: October 11, 2005, 01:14:39 PM »
I just got a compound bow couple of weeks ago for my birthday and noticed that my string is wearing out quickly in one spot.Is actually close to where it would hit armguard but not sure if its hitting it.If it is , how do i prevent it from happening again.Could anyone  please help me with this problem cause im worried that this string will snap on me.Was wondering also if it does break if some people get hurt.I am new to this  sport so might be a stupid question to some but still would like to know about things to watch out for before it happens. Thanks in advance.

The only stupid question is the question not asked and u asked so its not stupid...
All strings wear a little..best thing to do is get some Bow String wax..you can find it at any archery shop and mabye even at Wal-Mart.
Just dont wax the string on cams(wheels)
I had an experience where I barely nicked my string with a broadhead...I went out to shoot, i pulled back and right where i bumped the string it featherd apart and looked like someone gut it with scissors didnt get hurt but of course its possible..its a risk, but hey life is a risk. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

If you are getting string wear at the point where your string passes your arm then you have one of two problems.  One-you are gripping your bow wrong and getting too much of your hand into the grip.  Two-your coat sleeve, arm guard etc... is sticking out too far.  But usually the problem is the hand/grip.  I never even use an arm guard with a coat.  Used to for years until I understood correct hand placement on the bow grip.

Waxing your bow string is always beneficial but if your string breaks, yes you will potentially have big problems.  Never take that risk if you value your eyes etc... or someone elses body parts.  Plus it could cost you $$$ for bow repairs.  One other thing that might help you out is to take your bow to a good bow shop and see what they think about the location of string wear.  Possibly they could re-serve your string so that the serving covers that part also.

Thanks for replying to my post.I brought in my bow to get a peep sight set in and asked about the string and he said same thing that i needed to wax it everytime that i use it.He put hot wax on with a hair blower and the string looks  much better now so i will keep doing that procedure.I also got a better arrowrest that drops down when i shoot and man that makes a big difference in my shooting now. Thanks again for repying to my post .

Thanks
