Cleaning your slug barrel
« on: October 13, 2005, 02:28:43 AM »
I just sighted in my new ultra slug barrel and my question is do i need a special solvent . I now use hoppes #9 for all my guns  and sometimes need the hoppes copper solvent. With these sabot slugs  i guess the only fouling would be plastic from the sabot. Will the hoppes do the trick or do i need a special plastic solvent?

I'm no authority or anything like that, but I would think the #9 would work fine.  After all, it's just plastic.  Once it cools, I would think a few good strokes with the brass brush an you would be ready to go.  Let's see what the rest of the family has to say, but I don't think it should be a problem.  I know someone on this forum posted about a product out to help prevent plastic fowling in the bore.  It may have been Quick, not sure.  It was quite a while back.  Good Luck.

Cookie,
Sounds like your right on the mark...  I always clean my rifled shotguns with a good scubing with a brass bore brush soak in Birchwood bore scrubber. Then I run as many clean dry patches as need until they come out clean.

I would think that if you clean it like you would a regular rifle barrel it should be fine. I am no expert but that is what I would do.
