Thanks for sharing the knowledge bp. There was a stainless 1858 listed on one of the online gun auctions. It closed "reserve not met", with my $150 bid being highest. The seller had real good pictures included in his auction, and it was a real nice looking revolver, with yellowish imitation ivory grips. A day or so after it closed, I received a "haggle" notice from the seller. If I would go $15 more, he would sell it to me. Having been sorry for buying cap and ball pistols from other makers, and not being able to find anyone who could give me advice about San Paolo quality, I passed on it. I have since purchased a 5 1/2 in barrel, .44 Uberti 1858, with a case hardened frame, and it is a real nice looker, smooth , tight action, as well as accurate. I am real happy with it . Now that I find you like your San Paolo, I'm just a little sorry I didn't take a chance, and buy the stainless one too. Thanks for filling in the blanks for us. In the future, I will have a little more confidence in Armi San Paolo, if I get another chance at one.
