We have a rub line in our woods but no scrapes along it. This deer is rubbing trees 4" in diameter but he is not making scrapes that we can find. We have never seen anything like it. Usually if we find rubs we find scapes. Has anyone else seen this?

I tend to see just the opposite.  Scrapes on the ground but few tree rubs.  I guess I just always figured that was the way bucks were.  My understanding is that they scrape in response to a doe's urination when they (or one comes into heat).  Rubs were made for various reasons including sign posts both visual and olfactory.

Maybe a little early?    Or perhaps the scrapes are a little deeper in the woods.    I tend to find the scrapes under the same limbs, year after year.    Rubs tend to be wherever.

I agree with Pepaw,  I think it is still early.
