Trapping History question nbr 10

What well know trapper grew flowers specifically gladiolus  during the summer to sell.  I talked to a man that bought gladiolus bulbs from this trapper for growing show glads.  This trapper trapped all over the U.S. .  Another thing this trapper did was  harvest fresh water  clam shells for selling for button manufacturing .  This trapper also harvested pearls that  were  in some of the shells.
    While Marten trapping this trapper used a item called Sierra Snowshoes which  were  11 feet long.
  WHO is this trapper?
