Finally got the baikel onto the range
« on: October 14, 2005, 12:58:57 PM »
Hi All,

Well last Sunday for the first time I shot my single shot Baikel 18MH in .222 Rem on a proper range . The only ammuntion that I have is a couple of boxes of Sako 55 Grn Gamehead. The rifle I sighted in at about 60 paces so nothing was touched adjustment wise, just a few for grouping. POI was in the Bull at 100 yards but very slightly to the right which I put down to the stiff wind from my left on Sunday. 4 shots were close together but the 5th was about 1" away. More testing is needed to really tell how good this rifle performs and I really do need to get some dies and new cases to get the best out of it. This will have to wait until funds permit though but I do have the feeling that accuracy is going to be better than one might expect from this rifle.

The only work done on the rifle is that I reduced the weight of the trigger pull, but it still has some creep in it, and I reshaped and re-finsihed the wood to a more pleasing and comfortable shape to my mind. The fore end has not been bedded nor floated although I am not quite sure how one would float this fore end? This is how it looks now :-

I have removed the rubber but pad and put a std Baikel red plastic one on in it's place as the rubber pad is not needed with a .222 Rem chambered rifle.
The rubber pad has been swapped onto a 20 bore Baikel single shot shotgun I have aquired.

Edit:- Just for Coyote Trapper, hope ths helps.

This is how it looked when I got the rifle.

The action closed

It does not shoot to badly.

Tell me more, I'm very interested. What kind of rins do you use for that 11mm rail on top ?  I've also been trying to find out about the remington  Spartan .  Could you send a picture of your rifle to my e-mail ? it really looks nice.

Hi Country Boy,

Yes I can send you  photos or rather give you access to them however your e-mail is not in your profile so................... The photos are of before and after I re-modeled the wood! 8)

The 1" rings I have used are Australian and "Hilver" by name. The Co is no longer in production I understand but I believe you may find them under the name Lynx. If really stuck it may be possible to find another set still over here in the UK. You can PM me your e-mail if you wish.
