Contender frame heat treatment?
« on: October 15, 2005, 05:09:34 PM »
Does anyone know the alloy of the Contender frame and are they case hardened or through treated?

I'd heard somewhere? that those that were case hardened for "color" were not successful due to warping ,etc?

I don't know anything about the alloy or heat treatment, but I have a color cased frame (a custom job done by I'm not sure who) that works just fine.

If it's from TC, then likely by Doug Turnbull a very noted gunsmith. Glad it works for you. I had one ordered (money paid) and after several months TC couldn't even tell me if the frame was ordered , when I'd get it, or even if I'd get it...

I didn't get it from T/C, but from Joe Wright, former president of the T/C Association, a number of years ago.  It's a late model original Contender, not a G2.  He probably told me who did it, but I don't recall.  Anyhow, as I said, it works great.
