Just found this forum,  is there anything the Graybeard site doesn't have?

Anyhow, I'm trying to find more on my Great, great Grandad.  My mom found some military records, but she is also gone and the papers lost.

I remember that he was Captain (George?) Wise of the Pennsylvania 5th Calvary.

I remember some family members saying that after a long search, they found his name at Gettysburg.

Star1pup, Welcome to the GBO family. There are probably some but I can't think of one right now.  GB set this forum up for me so I would have a place to put my family tree.

Do you happen to know what part of Pennsylvania that the 5th Calvary was in?

I'm sure someone will give me some direction.  Thanks for the great website.  Lots of info on everything.

All I know is that my Grandma was from somewhere around Oil City, PA.  Her maiden name was Neely, so the Capt. must have been a maternal granddad for her.

I also heard that the Neelys fought in the Revolution and during the War of 1812, guarded Perry's ships as they were being built in Erie, PA.

The rest of my family are English and Irish immigrants in the late 1800s.

I found that PA has an Archives Website and it was helpful.  Might also help others researching.  I doubt this will make me popular with you southerners, but found out that great, great granddad was with the PA 4th Calvary, Company K.  He was there from 10-18-61 until the end.  I'm surprised that he lived through it as they had some heavy casualties.  I found that during one charge, 40 were killed in 100 yards.
