Remington model 7, does your barrel float?
« on: October 17, 2005, 09:50:46 AM »
I know this has probably been covered.  One of my model 7's has the factory forend pressure.  I have heard some say the had better luck each way.  Please tell me how your model 7 is(floating or not) and what kind of groups do you get out of it?  Thanks in advance.

Mine is a  LS model 7 and it has the pressure point at the front tip ,shoots one inch groups at 100 yards ,not to bad for my skill level.  That is shooting off sandbags.
I enjoy collecting guns, swaping and staying up on all the newest models. I deer, quail, squirrel and rabbit hunt.

Nope, pressure point at the tip of the forearm.    Shoots about 1-1.5" out of a cold barrel.    I only shoot factory 140's in my .260 now.   If I want to go hunting, I grab this gun.   If I want to shoot tighter groups, I grab one of my heavier 700's.

I have two Sevens and both were glass bedded by a knowlageble gunsmith. My 7/08 has an 18 ' barrel and is bedded to about 2.5 inches ahead of the action/recoil lug only. My 20" SS .223 is bedded the same yet with as I remember 12lbs forend pressure. They both shoot wonderfully off hand and bench.

I had a model seven S.S. in .308 Winchester. Dropped it into a swamp in Pike Co. PA during a drive while bear hunting...barrel definitely does not float (neither does the rest of the gun) lol. :-D  :-D  :-D
