TACTICAL LIGHTS
« on: March 02, 2003, 09:51:33 AM »
Hi guys,  :D

Do any of you guys have a tactical light on any of your Glocks?  I was thinking of getting a M3 tactical light to go with some Mepro night sights.  What do you guys think?

I like them. I don't own one but I have used them at work. While your looking check out the M5, I think that its called the M5. It may be the M6. Anyway, it has the light with a laser built into the unit below the light. It works nice. They are not cheap but they work well and beats the heck out of holding a flash light in your off hand when you are trying to shoot.

M3 for Glock23
« Reply #2 on: March 02, 2003, 09:05:10 PM »
I bought the M3 Tactical Light for my Glock 23 shortly after buying my Glock 23 over 5 years ago. It works quite well for a "home defense gun" situation, but I wouldn't consider it for CCW use. It simply makes the gun too bulky for concealment purposes and has limited use in most street situations. I only put it on the weapon at night when I keep the Glock in my nightstand next to the bed. The M3 mounts quickly to the front rail assy on my Glock and the switch is easily operated by either my trigger finger or support hand - the switch has a spring-loaded rocker switch that is pushed one way for intermittant use and the other direction for lock-ON use. It puts out about 15,000 candlepower and will easily blind a person in a darkened home situation. I would use the intermittant position to both blind and identify a person in my home at night, before making the decision to fire, if necessary. The M3 is quickly and easily removed from the weapon by simply depressing the latch and pressing it forward off the rail.
The light is effective in this respect, but it is an expensive "toy" since the price can vary from a little over $150 to $200 depending on where you shop. A good Streamlight or PR-6 Tactical Light has more usefullness and is about $100 cheaper.

Hey SLUG GUNNER,  :D

How does the m3 fit on your G23, because i would be putting this light on the same model.  The reason that i'm asking is that i noticed that the rail on my G23 is'nt that long.
I'm also going to put this light on at night before i put it in my pistol safe at night and reley on some meprolight sights for ccw.
I'm probably order both of these at the same time from Top Glock and save on some shipping. The M3 is'nt that cheap $129.95.

                                    Thanks

M3 for Glock23

My M3 Tactical Light fits quite easily onto the Glock 23 front rail. You simply start it onto the accessory rail and push it rearward until it 'clicks' into place. The M3 fits up almost against the front of the trigger guard and extends about 1/4" past the end of the barrel. When you lay your trigger finger along the outside of the trigger guard it rest right on the M3 rocker-switch. Pressing the switch downward (clockwise) puts it into the spring loaded 'momentary' ON position, when you release it, it goes off. Pushing it upward (counter-clockwise) puts it into the 'LOCKED ON' position. There is a rocker-switch tab on BOTH SIDES so it can be controlled with either hand. Removing it is almost as easy as putting it on.... simply pull down on the the 'locking bar' that fits into the grove on the bottom of the front rail assy with your thumb and forefinger of your left hand while pushing forward with your right thumb or finger on the rear of the M3 and its off.
The M3 can be focused for spot or flood beam operation. The price you stated is pretty good.... I paid about $175 for mine and it listed for $199.
It's expensive for a Tactical Light, but quite effective for what you want.

If you get it, pick up a spare set of "photo lithium" batteries for it - they last a long time and have about a 10 year shelf-life (if you don't use it, the batteries don't get weaker like alkalines do). I'm still using the set I bought for it new. You'll really be surprised at how "BRIGHT" it is in a darkened room. If you 'shine' it in your own eyes, all you can see for about 10 minutes is a little 'white circle' in front of your face after you turn it off. I love mine.
PS: I also have the Meprolite "night sights" on mine and they really stand out in any subdued light situation or darkened room. You don't have any problem finding your gun at night with the "night sights" on it - they're like having a neon sign on it.

Hey Slug Gunner, :D

Thanks for your input.  It was very helpful.  I'm definately going to get the m3 and some lithium batteries now that i read your reply. I've always relied on a mag light for my weak hand but the tac light would be a better choise so i can still get a good 2 handed grip.

                                            Thanks again

Hey Hardcore,

Check the prices at www.botach.com for those batteries...maybe even the light too.  That's the cheapest place I've found for lithium batteries.

I have used and gotten rid of the m6, does not even come close to the quality and output of the Surefire. Of course I have several different combat lights at this point but am very fond of the Surefire brand. often carry the Executive 1 cell for small and easy. but use the 2 cell nitrolon for hiking camping etc. can be used with or without weapon and doesn't nec mean drawing weapon. did I mention built tough, Raymond

I saw the Glock "Safe Action" tatical light in a catalog I received yesterday. In the picture it looked larger than the M-3 and sold for $124.95. I was told by a friend that just completed the Glock Armor's school that the Glock light was smaller and less expensive than the M-3. Doesn't look like it to me! Is Glock producing a second, smaller light?

My Dept recently purchased the M3 lights for all (15). Some of us upgraded with our own money to M6 (with the laser). The lights are very bright and have proven durable. We also have the belt cases for the lights. No holsters, we have to put on and take off at the holster. Overall very satisfied. BTW-the glock produced light is junk...don't even bother. We looked, and couldn't beleive glock made them.....very disapointing. I didn't get the laser 1) because it was 135.00 more 2) inside of a building, if the center of my beam from the M3 is on your chect, the bullet impact will be "close enough for government work". Longer range equals longer guns....
We also recently purchase the mounts for the M3,M6 for out Mossberg 500 shotguns and AR15 Rifles. The mounts are similar to the rails on the glock pistols. Works out nicely to have a light that will go on any of our guns on your belt. Pete :D

Price on M3 was about $105.00 each 6 months ago, the M6 was about $240.00 + the price of their belt pouches.

I have had the Glock tactical light for several months.  I paid about $100 somewhere.  Easy on, easy off, flash on.  You can operate the switch with the trigger finger of either hand.

I think it is smaller but it's hard to say.  The main thing is that it is flatter and I think that is a good thing. It's no wider than the slide. I think the brightness is about the same since it uses the same bulb and two batteries as everything else.

NEW Model ITI M3X Tactical Light
« Reply #16 on: February 10, 2004, 04:49:11 PM »
I received an email from Botach advertising this "new" model M3x today.

NEW Model ITI M3X Tactical Light:

Introducing the all-new M3X, where the "X" stands for X-treme. With 125 peak lumens AND 1-hour continuous run-time, the M3X's Shock-Suppression-System enables 30% greater white light output (vs. standard M3) without sacrificing overall performance. The enhanced mil-spec design allows the air-tight M3X to be exposed to the world's harshest environments, be it blinding desert sand storm or swimming 66 feet under salt water.

Non-dedicated by design, the patented Slide-Lock interface provides rapid attachment/detachment to virtually any weapon with a MILSTD-1913 rail (or equivalent) while the interchangeable backplates provide multiple, user-defined, configuration options for maximum versatility.

I recieved a glock tactical light for my Glock 20 as a Christmas present. Works great as my camp/pack gun and I also bought a mount from Wild West Guns that fits on my Marlin 1895GS S/S 45-70 that uses this same light. One light for both guns is great. I got the Glock light instead of the other makes just because it matches my G20. This is my first post on this forum came here Marlin Talk. Purchased the light through Ebay for $74.95

Finally got out last night and tried shooting with the tactical light. I was not even thinking about this, but when I sqeezed the trigger with the light on the light lit up the gun smoke like I was shooting black powder loads. I had to do the duck and weave to keep firing quickly. The powder I was using was Hodgdon Tite Group.

SUREFIRE X 200
« Reply #19 on: March 31, 2004, 08:00:45 PM »
IF YOU GUYS ARE LOOKING FOR THE ULTIMATE TACTICAL LIGHT YOU GOT TO CHECK THE SUREFIRE X 200. IS THE ONLY LED LIGHT powerful ENOUGH TO BE KNOWN AND CLASSIFIED AS A TACTICAL LIGHT. I THINK THAT THE PRICE IS ALMOST DOUBLE AS THE STREAMLIGHT M3 BUT IT'S BRIGHTER, SMALLER ANT THE BULB (BECAUSE DON'T HAVE ANY filaments) LAST LONGER AND RESIST THE RECOIL ABUSE OF BIG CALIBERS. CHECK SUREFIRE'S WEB PAGE http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/carfnbr/91/sesent/00 FOR MORE INFO.....
IF GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS....
