THE NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
Dear Federal Firearms License Dealer,
This is to advise you that the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has informed the State of Nevada that the Nevada Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit no longer qualifies as an alternative to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) per 18 U.S.C. S 922(t)(3) and 27C.F.R S478.102 (d)(1).
Begining October 23, 2005, all firearms transferred to a CCW permit holder are subject to a NICS check, prior to the actual transfer, in the same manner as non-permit holders. This includes all CCW permits regardless of their date of issuance or their expiration date.
The Point-of -Sale Firearms Program (POS) serves as Nevada's Pont-of-Contact to the NICS for all firearm background checks. Should you have any questions, pertaining to the background check process, please contact the POS Program at 1-800-474-7865 or (775) 687-6200. If you have any questions with regards to the federal requirements, please contat your local ATF office. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely, Major B. Wideman
