DO NOT use the Serria .204 bullets on coyote
« on: October 18, 2005, 01:33:54 PM »
I hit 3 maybe 4 coyotes today with the Serra 32 gn bullets and never got a coyote. I put one down twiced. hard and he still got away. I called Serra when I got home and the Serra tec. told me that thier bulles were not designed for that heavy of game. I went with the Serrias because they were far more accurate than any of the other bullers I`ve tried, great for groundhogs, but won`t cut the mustered on coyote. I posted this on small bore also.

Did you get to use a 39gr on a yote yet?
What kind of range were you shooting with the 32gr?  :D

I don`t get the opertunity to shoot at coyotes very often. I`m carring 40 gn. Bergers in the truck now, but have not had a chance to try them yet. I get a better group with the 40 gn. Sierras, but after talking to the Sierra tech. I`m alittle scarred to try them on coyotes.

OUCH!
never had one that bad before....well, may be one but it was 25ft away.
Tell you what I do have very good luck with though...It's the .22-250 with Hornady's #2267 which is a 55gr FMJBT.

The .204 is still of intrest to me but I want a TOUGH bullet with small holes and let the velocity to work it's magic.

To quote Robert Ruark, "...use enough gun!" I've yet to be convinced the .204 is adequate for coyote, regardless of the bullet weight used. I've heard far too many stories of wounded 'yotes getting away with multiple bullets in them from the .204. That's one of the main reasons I'll be sticking with my .22-250s & .223s for "big" predators. I'd much rather accept a little pelt damage than allow an animal to escape and die a lingering death. No offence intended, but you might want to consider switching calibers rather than bullet weights for your song dog hunting!
