Hello all,

I just received a great surprise from my father today.  When I got home from work, there sitting on the table was a new .223 Synthetic Handi-Rifle.  Now I have to scour the stickies on this forum, and get it all cleaned up before shooting on Saturday.  Any advice you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to learning a lot from you.

Welcome Aboard WJC, you have a great gun there. Clean it well and try the inexpensive Value Pak Winchester HP's from WalMart for about $14 for 40 rounds. Make sure you get the hollow points, they seem to shoot great in all H&R's and are the "gold standard" by which all other .223 ammo seems to be judged here on this forum. Get back to us with your shooting results. Checking the stickys is a great way to start, pull the trigger all the way to the rear, just don't "trip" it. Rest the rifle by the hinge pin, just forward of the trigger guard,  try these for starters. Glad to have you here and have fun. Oh yes, expect about 1" groups at 100 yards with a scope!! The gun is up to it if you are. It may or may not need a bit of "tinkering", but that is the fun of it, all the info is here for you, just ask....<><.... :grin:

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I have cleaned everything now I have to get some flitz and polish the bore.  I can not believe all of the junk that was in there.  One thing I noticed from reading the stickies is that mine was made in 2003.  It was new in the box.  I did not see anything wrong with it.  Should I be looking for anything in particular since it has been at the store so long (the store was Bimart.)

As far as my next caliber, I am thinking about a .204 Ruger.

I can see this is going to get expensive.

I just put an older Bausch and Lomb Elite 4000 6-24x on it.  Is this too much scope?  I have been busy this evening!

Welcome, scope should be fine. If ya cleaned the crud out real good & put it back together make sure the chamber is dry. run some alcohol on a patch in it. Take an o-ring with ya to the range & use it if you need to. And like was said before win value pac 45gr hp's
