Factory .22 Hornet ammo prices ???
« on: October 19, 2005, 08:41:18 AM »
Why is it that Winchester and Remington charge $22-$25 for their standard 45/46gr .22 Hornet ammo and $30+ for their "Supreme" yet Hornady sells their 35gr V-max ammo for $12-$14 ?  Why is the Remington and Winchester stuff so expensive ?

My Browning A-Bolt likes the Hornady stuff which is great for my wallet. It also shoots the Win and Rem 45/46gr stuff well and I'd like to use that for coyotes out to 150 yards but I hate that it costs nearly twice as much !

I don't handload for the Hornet yet and probably won't for awhile so Factory ammo it is for now.

Love to help you but I haven't bought any factory ammo for any of my .22 Hornets since 1963.  The Hornet is too easy to load for.  Lawdog

The price difference between the Winchester's / Remington's and Hornady's are because Win & Rem has 50 rounds per box and Hornady's 35gr v-max has 25 rounds per box. The Win Supreme is higher because of the "more strict" production guidelines and the 34gr "special" bullet. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.

When I bought my rifle I bought a couple of boxes of Win & Rem 46gr stuff and a few boxes of the 35gr Hornady. After sighting in the rifle and deciding on the Hornady ammo the remaining Win and Rem stuff ended up being put in MTM plastic cases. I hadn't even realized it till now that you told me that it comes 50 to a box. Thanks again guys.
