Hunting holster, what do you like?
« on: October 19, 2005, 07:49:09 PM »
I think I want to use a over the shoulder holster like a bandolier type.  I always hunt with a backpack with a padded waistbelt so I wonder what the interference will be with my pack...I also keep my binoculars horizontally under my cross chest strap of my hunting pack, so they might also interfere as well.  For those of you that carry an 15 inch Encore scoped, what do you use and  how do you de conflict all your stuff.

Thanks,
Patrick Hover

I use Uncle Mikes side kick. i like it off to the side so i doesn't interfere with my binos. I use the harness style binocular straps so they hang right on my chest. Does not bother my backpack either. Only problem is the cordura is a little noisy. :D

I use my pistol sling. I keep my binocs inside jacket or shir(keeps em warm)t so they don't fog up when I use them. Pistol hangs in front or I swing it to the side.

48$, + shipping, then I checked ebay for some reason after I bought it and the exact same holster,  brand new, from another good vendor was 29.95$  couldnt believe there is that much diff. in price..Oh well its only money.

I used my Pistol Packaging Bandito under my backpack this weekend in fact.

By putting on the holster and then slipping my backpack over, it fit nicely under my arm and worked within the available space.

Couldn't even tell it was there and the draw would have been clean by reaching outside the straps to get to the Encore 12 inch just as if the backpack were not there.

:D I think it depends on what type of weather and terrain you are hunting.  If you are hunting in rain or snow the bandolier type is much better as it affords a little protection and especially if you are hunting out west because you might have to do alittle belly crawling and this has suoperior protection and plus you keep your hands free, for keeping off of those sticky and stinging things,

If you primarily stand hunt the sling is the best becasuse you can hang it up or let it hang off to the side of your body and you can also(even though I normally get to use the shooting rail) adjust the sling to just the right length to steady your shot in case of one of those in your face or 80 yard run and stop shots during the rut that has a bad habit of popping up when you are either eating or looking the other way.  OR YOU COULD JUST USE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME AS I DO
