Shooting slugs through a non-slug barrel
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:14:44 AM »
I will be doing some deer hunting in a shotgun-only area this fall and don't want to spend the extra money right now for a slug barrel for my Remington 11-87.  I already have adjustable sights on the 28" ventilated-rib barrel for turkey hunting, so my question is whether shooting slugs through a bird barrel will do harm to it?  I have heard some say that it will.  Opinions will be appreciated!!

You won't hurt it one bit, but an open choke is reccommended for best accurracy. Less deformation of the slugs. Regular El-cheapo Rem-Win-Fed Foster style slugs work about as well as anything under 50 yards. Clean the leading out with a brass brush. Happy hunting!
