Remington Peters Hulls
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:17:18 PM »
I have been reloading Remington Gun Club Hulls.   In the process of picking up freebees, I have accumulated a bunch of Remington Peters Hulls which look very much like the Green Club Hulls, but are smooth rather than rippled.  Actually, they look like green nitro hulls.

Can I load them like Gun Club/Nitro Hulls, or are should they be treated differently

The general rule in reloading shotgun shells is to use the load data EXACTLY as specified: with no changes in hulls, primers, powder, wad, or shot weight.  There could be significant differences in volume and wad height, compression, etc if you substitute the hull.

Unlike metallic cartridge ammo, shotgun proof pressures are relatively narrow and close to normal ammo pressures.  In other words, there is little margin for overloads.

That said, if you are feeling adventurous, it probably won't hurt to load just a few rounds of shells and substitute your R-P hulls.  If your wad column and compression is correct, and the crimps hold, they should be safe to shoot.

If the hulls you picked up are compression formed as the Gun Club or STS hulls are you can use the same load data as the hulls are the same.  If they have an seperate base wad of plastic or carboard, etc then you can't.
Good Shooting,
George

Thanks for the replys.  I guess what I was looking for was whether anyone knew if the Remington Peters Hulls are the same as the Remington Gun Club hulls.  The inside certianly looks the same, but I haven't found them listed in any of my manuals, so I'm reluctant to load them as if they were Gun Clubs

I will try to remember to look in my lyman manual. I thought they were still listed. Last ones I loaded up were baby mags. I loved those hulls. Not sure why they discontinued them because I thought they were as good as AA's.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I have the latest Lyman Shotshell manual, and that's the first place I looked......No Luck.

In any case, I loaded up two boxes worth with the same recipe I use for Gun Clubs, and I couldn't tell a difference when I shot them, and the Hulls looked OK after, so I guess I'll use them as if they were Gun Clubs.

Thanks All.
