MZ season opens tomorrow

Well I haven't posted here in quite a while now, still read quite a bit tho. Just wanted to say that the Huntsman is loaded (no primer) and ready to go for in the morning. Loaded with a .452 300 grain XTP over 76.5gr. of Triple7. I've got the bullet stuffed into a Traditions 50/45 red sabot. This is a load that I copied from tcallbuilder who uses 90gr. Pyrodex, so I just subtracted 15% for the T7 and got 76.5gr. I'm able to get a 1.5" group at 100 yards with this load and am pretty happy. Ditchdigger is shooting the same bullet in a 44 cal. and using 90gr. T7 and having the same results.
Got a doe picked out that we been watching all week. She comes out in the same spot every day so I think I will put her in the bag tommorrow and then have eight more days to concentrate on a buck. Here in Ok we're allowed one of each gender during both the MZ and rifle seasons.
Took a doe last year with my Huntsman using a 240 grain XTP 44 cal. over 90gr. T7 and wasn't real happy with bullet performance........pancaked on impact, but the result was still good........a dead deer.
I'll let ya'll know how I come out tomorrow.

MSP - There just comes a time when you have to shuck it all and go hunting! I've taken vacation time off from work all next week and I am not driving the school bus either, I don't think I'll even go to church. My wife asked me this morning what I actually had planned for next week and I said "Three things.....eat, sleep, hunt." That's just the way it has to be sometimes.
I forgot to mention that I have word on a pack of hogs that are showing up at a feeder every evening too, so I think I might try to Mack Truck one of them with this load too.

I think that's smart to put a doe in the freezer right away.  Sometimes those old does can be harder to harvest than the bucks.  Get her before she knows the game is on.

Good Luck... Stay Safe

I've thought a long time that a mature doe was harder to hunt than a mature buck. The proof is all the younguns runnin around.

Had to drive to Muskogee, OK yesterday to meet my daughter and pick up the grandbabies....Boy, was I having fits by  seeing all those 4-Wheelers on the back on trucks and trailers, and every guy looked as if he had a smile on his face.  I told my wife I wish I lived in OK right about now.  Of course, she told me to move if I felt the need.  Hope everybody had good luck.....POST PICS....

Only wish Texas had an early ML season

Well the doe didn't cooperate today. Might have had something to do with seven other trucks that were parked within 1 mile of where I hunted.    Public land abounds here in this part of OK but that's the drawback, a lot of hunters. Went to a different spot this evening and jumped two off the corn on the way in, they didn't return by dark. So I'll be back out in the morning to continue the hunt. Probably stay a little later due to the full moon being out at night and the deer aren't moving much till late morning and early afternoon.
Does and yearlings are plentiful here every year about this time and aren't that hard to pattern and kill. The bucks haven't really started stirring out of the cover too much because the rut isn't really on yet. More update tomorrow. I will take one with the Huntsman before the week is out tho.

BUSTED!
A set of twins came out at about 8:45 this morning while mama hung back in the cover for about a minute or so. Out she comes looking all around, I'm sitting in a tri-pod at least twelve feet off the ground and she looked up and right at me from about ten yards away. I kept easing the Huntsman up to my shoulder while being careful to make my movements while she's looking off somewhere else and careful not to look her in the eyes at any time while she's looking at me. Well I got the gun shouldered and had the scope on the center of her breastbone while she was facing me, hammer cocked and pressure being applied to the trigger when she blowed and all three took off. The twins were eating corn the whole time and just scooted when she blew.
Back this afternoon for another round.

Nothing to talk about this morning, however yesterday afternoon was a bit eventful. Went out about 2:30 or so with the intention of locating another stand on the property I've been so graciously afforded the opportunity to hunt on a little this season. Well I walked for about thirty minutes with no success, just couldn't remember where it was after it being over a year since I looked at it last. So I went back to the stand I had gotten busted in that morning and had a sit down. At about 6 pm I hear BaOOOM from about three hundred yards behind me. I called my friend Digger to see if it was him that had fired and he said he thought it was me. We came to the conclusion that it was the Dad of the man who has been putting out the corn and has set the stands. Digger said he was out behind where he was a ways. So I waited about twenty more minutes and climbed down to go see the dead deer. Digger and the dad were waiting on me when I got to where they were and turns out that five   bucks had come out together and the guy had shot one of them and the others ran about a hundred yards into the woods and then turned around and came back only to be spooked again when Digger walked up soon after he had heard the shot. Well it turns out he had taken the buck at the same spot I had been searching for earlier.    Oh well it happens that way some times. I'm headed back out to a new spot this afternoon so I hope to have a Huntsman deer to talk about later.

Well there's a reason they call it huntin' and not killin' now isn't there? Had a buck walk within 25 yards of me this morning but too far back in the cover to get a shot.
I ain't posting no more till I have one to brag about. Five days left.
