225 grain in 45 Colt

I am thinking about loading up some Speer 225 gr hp for whitetail hunting with Ruger BH. I will probably be pushing them around 1400 fps. Got data from an article by John Linebaugh. Has anybody here ever used this bullet for deer. Would appreciate any input good or bad.

I shot one deer on Kodiak with the Speer bullet, and it performed fine at the 25 yard range I shot.  I recovered the bullet  behind the diaphram after a quartering angle shot through the lungs; it showed great expansion, but MV was just 1150 fps in my short-barreled BH.  1400 fps and short ranges may be too high for the bullet to hold together unless the lungs are the only target.  Frankly, I usually try to choose a bullet which will expand some in the lungs yet still penetrate well on quartering shots....unless you want to pass up all quartering shots.   :?

I have some 240gr bullets loaded for deer and zeroed at 100 yds going 1450 fps.
