Author Topic: Took a small Black Bear with my 500 MAG (Read 853 times)

I got back from Maine the other day. I had a very good time. My buddy and I both scored on black bear. I got one with one shot from my 500 Mag, it was only a 100 lb bear, my buddy got one the was about 140 lb. We did not see any bigger bears, but it was still a blast. I am getting a full mount and my buddy is getting his rugged.

Congrats on the bear . What type of ammo did you use and how did it perform?

I reloaded some 370 gr. hard cast gas check bullets over 43 gr. of Lil-gun. One shot did the job. Bullet passed through both sides so I did not recover a bullet.

Thanks for the information. I was going to use mine in Maine this year but I fractured my wrist and didn't get to shoot it that much so I used my 350 rem mag instead. I got a 150 lb boar one shot at 3 paces from my stand he stood up and I put one dead center in his chest. Went straight through good entrance and exit holes.

Just have to ask where the both of you hunted in Maine, if it's a honey hole, just a general idea will do

I hunted by Wilton Maine. I was on a guided hunt with Stoney Brook Outfitters.

I hunted with Josh Rhoades of Eastern Ridge Adventures www.blackhuntihg.us he was out near Machias. Had an excellent time.
