I am getting ready to purchase my first encore. I would like to know if anyone has dispatched any coyotes with this round and if so how well did it perform. I have narrowed my choices to 22-250, 204, or 223wssm. The rifle will be primarily used for varmints and target. Is the 204 a good choice for coyote?

Dont hav any of the listed calibers, but for what its worth.......

.223 WSSM, I heared, has had many problems and Im not sure anyone still chamber this round (meaning you might have to buy a used bbl.)

.204 Ruger is proving to be all they claimed, but.........

Due to sheer availability, variety and load selection Id say the .22-250 would be my choice.

+1 for the .22-250 unless you never want to hunt anything larger and/or never expect to take a longish shot, and live with no wind. then go for the .204. I can't speak of the .223 WSSM.

My current "calling rifle" sports the 26" stainless 22-250 barrel.... 1/2" 100 yard groups with the VERY limited workup I've had time to do.

Anyway, at times I feel I am overgunned for the yardage I have been shooting coyotes at, but sure as shoooting, if I take the 223 out, I'll have one tempt me way out there...........

I didn't realize they even offered a 223 WSSM in the Encore line. Which would make no diff to me...I'm not really moved to try the WSSM offerings.

I SHOOT THE .204 26" HEAVY BARREL OUT OF A SAVAGE. (32g. HORNADY BULLET)  ALSO SHOOT THE .223 CONTENDER WITH A 23' HEAVY BARREL.   (50g. HORNADY SPXP)  

WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT THE .204 IS I SEE THE BULLET IMPACT AT 20X BEYOND 150 YDS.  THE CONTENDER .223 I REALLY HAVE TO CONCENTRATE ON HOLDING IT DOWN TO ELIMINATE THE MUZZLE JUMP.  

I HAVE TAKEN GROUND SQUIRRELS OUT TO 385YDS WITH THE .203. (USING A LASER RANGE FINDER) I HAVE NOT TAKEN A COYOTE WITH IT.

YOTES TAKEN WITH THE .223 50g. HPXP DROP IN THEIR TRACKS WITH A BODY HIT.

YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE .204 AND .17HMR HANDIWORK ON THE "CALIFORNIA PREDATORS CLUB" SITE.  YOU MUST REGISTER AND GO TO THE "MEMBERS ONLY"
