Is Anyone familiar with N.E.F. Pinnacle O / U shotguns?
« on: October 22, 2005, 09:23:35 AM »
Are they any good?

Do you like them?

NEF offers these O/U shotguns as a cheap inexpensive alternative to getting into the stack-barrel scattergun.

Wally world sells them for @$620 in 12 or 20 gagg.

I've been lusting over the possibility of eventually getting into a Beretta UltaLight O/U, but am not ready to spend $2,000.  Plus these NEF Pinnacle O/U's are advertised as being lighter weight than many similar over-unders.

Does anyone own a Pinnacle?  And would you recommend them?

I'm looking for a solid and versatile bird gun to hunt several uplans species from quail over a pointer to pheasants, chukars and really big sage grouse.

Thanks for any input.    8)

If I remember correctly they are imported from Russia and they got a pretty good write up in one of the gun rags. Not that you ever see them trash any guns from companies that pay for advertising space in there magazine. Anyway seems to me the article said that they were well made solid guns for the money, just lacked the polish and glitz of their pricier counterparts.  Have never personally held one or even seen one myself.  Always kinda wanted a double myself but couldn't come to terms with the fact that I could get a good pump for at least half the cost.

Haven't seen the guns only the photos. If they are from Russia they are Baikals and that's not that great. Pretty rough around the edges. I think you'd be well advised to take a look at the new CZ Huglu's instead. Or look for a used Browning Citori.

I hate Brownings in general and Citori's in particular!  That's why I perfer Beretta over/under's and Benelli auto's.

But thanks for the comments.  I'll give the Huglu's a looksee.   8)

Couldn't find the Huuglu's ......

And the new "Remington" Spartan SXS's and O/U's are supposed to be Baikal's.  I've heard many people praise the Baikal's despite being "cheap" no-frills double-barrels.  Beauty must be more than skin deep!

Just handled one of these in 12 ga. at my local Wally-World...

NEW KAYHAN 12GA. OVER/UNDER SILVER RESERVE SHOTGUN MADE IN TURKEY AND IMPORTED BY MOSSBERG INTERNATIONAL. FEATURES 28" VENTILATED RIB BARRELS,BEAD SIGHT,RUBBER BUTT PLATE,SHOOTS 2.75" & 3" SHELLS,5 CHOKE TUBES/WRENCH,SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER,SHELL EXTRACTORS,SCROLL ENGRAVED SATIN SILVER RECEIVER WITH GOLD GAME SCENES AND HAND CHECKERED WALNUT STOCK. ALSO AVAILABLE IN 20,28 AND . 410 GUAGES WITH 26" BARRELS. COMES WITH DOSKOCIL HARD CASE,KEYED TRIGGER LOCK,TWO 12GA. SNAP-CAPS(PRACTICE AMMO),HOPPE'S CLEANING KIT AND MANUAL/WARRANTY-ALL NEW! AN EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY O/U AT A GREAT PRICE! BUYER

The example I looked at had beautiful black walnut stocks but the fit of the wood to metal could have been a little better with a noticeable gap were the butt met the receiver on one side and the checkering had a several over runs and flattened diamonds.  All the metal parts seemed well finished and fit well. Wally-Word wanted just under $477 for it.  Looked like a good deal any body have any experience with them?

Found their web site... http://www.mossbergintl.com/pages/silverreserve.htm

I've also laid hands on a couple of the Silver Reserves imported by Mossberg. All I can say is WOW, that's a lot of gun for the money. Fit and finish were excellent fully equal to guns costing twice as much. They looked like a real genuine bargain for someone looking for a lower price double gun.

I'm very scared of the Huglu. He bought two, a 12 fo himself and a 20 for his wife. The fit and finish was great and they shot and handled well. The problem was once when he closed the 12ga it fired without the trigger being touched. He sent it back and they had it for a month or so and sent him a new one. Then the same thing happened with the 20. This is a guy who knows how to handle guns and I'm confident it was not operator error. This was a few years ago and they may have it figured out by now but it's still scary.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

I checked out the link you provided and the Franchi site.  These guns look interesting.  The Franchi site listed a MSRP of over $1200! According to there site Bass Pro is one of their retailers.  Where did you buy yours?

I got mine at a little gun shop here in lima , He had 4 of them and could hardly give them away .

Nobody wanted them because they were not a Remington or Ruger or Winchester .

Personally i love mine , it points better than mama's Red Label , and will take 2 3/4 and 3 in. shells .

The ones he had were all field grade guns , He had $400.00 on them for almost a year .

I prefer sxs doubles, but over/unders are cool also, but one thing I don`t like is single select triggers, only double triggers for me. Jack.
