Stick Extraction on 270
« on: October 22, 2005, 04:38:37 PM »
My dad has a 700 in 270 and the empties are sticking in the bolt upon
extraction after being fired. Only thing I can assume is that he is not
bringing the bolt all the way back to let the spring pop out the empty.
Any other suggestions is apprieciated.

Since the ejector is in the boltface, he should not have to bring the bolt all the way back to eject, but only far enough for the empty to clear the reciever ring. The plunger may be rusted in place. Another possibiliy is that the extractor may be broken, and is jamming the shell in the bolt face.

A little bit of Kroil or even Liquid Wrench into the bolt face and then exercise the ejector up and down with a drift punch.  Ought to clear up the problem if it is jammed.

If the ejector is stuck from rust, it probably needs a new plunger and spring because the rust buildup has packed in the hole.  The crosspin is sometimes a bugger to remove.
