308 or 7-08

one of my shootin buddies has an encore and is planning another barrel purchase. he is trying to decide between the 308 and the 7-08
he doesnt have access to a comp so he wanted me to post the question of which is the better cartridge in the encore??
he is gonna be hunting whitetails in ga with the possibility of some 300 yard shots
any input on this would be appreciated pros/cons of either or both calibers

my dad owns a 308 encore and loves it.  he can shoot very accurately at 300 yards.  the 308 has proven itself time and time again in many situations.  i personally know many people who swear by it in the woods and on the range.  but i am in the same predicament.  i have looked at the ballistics on the 308 and 7-08.  the 7-08 has a little less kick and is flatter shooting and carries energy better, which is crucial for longer range shooting.  this suprised me but if you dont believe me check this out.  http://www.remington.com/ammo/ballistics/centerfire/comp_ballistics_results.asp

Over the years, I have been VERY impressed with the 308 and very DEpressed with anything that had 7mm attached to it. Maybe it was the luck of the draw.......I don't know.
