Sabot magnum/not magnum
« on: October 23, 2005, 08:47:03 AM »
Doing some research I have found that Hornady makes a mag and nonmag sabot. Has anyone else found these to shoot differently or does it matter. I am planning on getting the huntsman with the tracker II barrel combo and know that it is not a mag barrel. The sabot bullet combo from hornady that sells at wallmart is the mag model where else can you get the nonmag type?

I haven't found anything, including PRB, that I would judge to not be an effective deer round out of my Huntsman. I use 90gr 777, and .295 cj
powerbelt = 5 shots 5 deer, no run!!! This is just a deer rifle, and for me it's always about shot placement (in the cleft behind shoulder). I could care less what bullet I use... Powerbelts just happened to be the first thing I picked up when I knew doodly squat about muzzleloading. I find they are the most accurate on paper, but it still is all about acceptable deer accuracy for me. I would have no problem when my supply of powerbelts exhausts, to hunt with .70gr 777, .015 pillow ticking, and Hornady roundball.... $4.99 on sale per 100!!!!

I know how effective the ML's are I have a .58 huntsman and currently am shooting 70 gr of 2f and PRB.

What I was wondering is if the mag/non mag sabot made any difference with a non mag load. does it seal the bore effectivly?

Thank you for answering it confirms a suspision I had about not needing the sidekick mag for the deer in mid central Illinios.

Just wondering why Hornady came up with 2 kinds of sabot in 50 cal. Guess is that the nonmag type were losing accuracy due to blown skirts.

Thanks I just don't see why they would need 2 different types.
