Lapua Scenar...appropriate for deer hunting?
« on: October 23, 2005, 11:51:26 AM »
I've been working up loads, and was about to do some 108 and 123 grain 6.5x55 Lapua Scenars.

But, as I look at Lapua's site, I'm wondering if these bullets are appropriate for deer hunting.

They are hollow point (so they could make a heck of a hole)...but I don't know if the bullet is really designed for the energy transference needed.

Has anyone used these bullets for hunting deer?

They are a long range target type bullet.  They do take down steel silhouette animals, but I would not shoot one at a deer.

I've never heard of them but if they are a target bullet, then the hollowpoint is there for aerodynamic reasons and is non-expanding.  It'd be like shooting a deer with a solid.
