Possible extractor problem developing (204 ruger)
« on: October 24, 2005, 05:49:13 AM »
Although it has only happen twice but I have the extractor miss the rim of the case (so far only on unfire cases) it is like the extraxtor is not coming up enough.

One other possibility I am thinking there could bee some quality issues with this brass. There have been other issues like inconsistant rim thickness so I might have to measure this new batch of brass mayby there is now a rim diameter issue ?

Or the extractor need cleaning.

Any sugrestions?

Aulrich.
Take it apart and clean it and remove all sharp edges with a stone. It is sticking.

Yes Fred that is the best first step, and the most likly cause.

Am I going blind? is the extractor/ ejector dissassembly in the sticky? And does it come apart similaraly to the ejector?

I don't think the extractor has been disassembled by anyone yet, so I don't think it's in the FAQ. Please let us know how it goes so we can add some instructions!!

Thx

Well you two guys Quick an Aulrich both of you have extractor rifles.
The Handi rifles are so simple, I doubt that the extractors are any different. So just have at it and take one apart, there can only be one small spring in it to to force the extractor up as it passes the lift cam??

You may want to spray the extractor with Crudout and then take it to a service  station and blow it out with compressed air. Or spray it with WD40 and boil it in a pot of water on the stove. I do that with Rem trigger groups or O/U actions. It works well without taking things apart.

WD40 does not boil off but it sure boils of all the crud and dirt. The metal get hot enough to dry as soon as you take out of the water then give it another blast with WD40.

Don't set the metal directly on the bottom of the pot, set it on a small rock or two.
