Ejection problem
« on: October 24, 2005, 02:19:00 PM »
I started reloading slugs for the first time last year and need help with a problem. What should the shell be trimmed to before i roll crimp it. When finished the O.A.L is correct. What is happening is after the shot is fired I open the bolt, extraction is very easy but the shell lays on top of the magazine or hangs half way out of the action. It doesn't seem like its getting flipped out or is the fired shell to long and is getting hung up. Is it my reloading of the shell. Its a marlin bolt action slug gun. Thanks

It might not be your "loading" that's at fault here, just your unloading. Try working the bolt faster. Pull it all the way back quickly, and see how she does. You safely can do this indoors with a fired hull. If you can't get the shell to eject proportionatly to the speed that you work the bolt, you might have a broken ejector.
