.30-30 silvertip ammo
« on: October 25, 2005, 07:23:45 AM »
My .30-30 handi loves these things. I use 150 gr. and ive never shot a deer with them. Has anyone had any experience with these bullets on whitetails?? Are they any better than power-points or core-lokts??

Thanks, Muddy

Muddy05, The Silver tip would be an excellent round for whitetails.

Muddy05, I used to use nothing but WW Silvertips in my Marlin 336 in .35 Remington and they are great on deer!!!....<><....

I haven't shot any deer with them..but have busted a few ground hogs with them..they work great on them too... :-D

A good friend of mine used them exclusively from his Marlin...and took more deer with them than anything else...they work and work good for the 30-30...

I've used them (30-30) with great success on wild hogs (some upwards of 300lbs).  All were shot behind the shoulder.  All went a few steps and died.  I like them because you can get them at Walmart for under $10 a box.

The Silvertip, much like the Core lokt is a cornerstone in bullet history.
They both helped pave the way to the so called 'premium" bullets we enjoy today.

They work as well today as they did for my father and his father! Buy some and see how your rifle likes them, if they shoot well enough for you, don't worry about the performance, they will hold up on their end of the deal!!

I still have and covet a couple boxes of W-W Silvertip 35 Rem ammo!!!

The 150 Winchester SilverTips are my favorite factory load in both of my SB2 30-30s and an old H&R Model 158 30-30 Topper. The 170s also work well, but the 150s have worked the best for me. As this Muly doe found out!!

Maybe I have been asleep at the switch, but where are you all finding the Winchester 150/170 Silvertips for handloading??  I have looked at various sights and can not find them........they were the most accurate bullet I used to handload with......shot some five shot groups where all of them were touching at 100 yards....

mt3030,

Can you tell me more about the Handi Rifle in your pic above.  I'm not familiar with that configuration.  Is that a heavier than standard barrel?

Please advise.  Thanks in advance.

biglmbass:
Just a standard SB2 30-30 that has been cut to 18 inches. Added a camo laminated straight grip stock set and Burris 2x7. Has proven very "Handi" in close quarters of truck and brush.
