Chamber Adaptors
« on: October 26, 2005, 02:24:20 AM »
I am interested in picking up a chamber adaptor for two of my rifles, a 308 Ishapore and a M48 8x57.  I have the ability to cast bullets for these rifles and create reduced loads, it's just that sometimes I would like the convenience of being able to plink/practice with off-the-shelf ammo.

In my search I found two types of adaptors:  The first is a typical conversion adaptor, making a smaller cartridge, with a bullet of the same size as the barrel, fit the chamber of a larger rifle.  These adaptors can be seen at: http://www.mcace.com/.

The second type uses the .22 blanks for power-actuated tools and fires a small lead projectile (ball) loaded into the front of the adaptor.  These are sold at: http://www3.telus.net/gamegetter/.

I am hoping to hear from people who have had experience with either of these types of chamber adaptors and what kind of success they have had.

Thanks,
Jim

I have several of the mcace type. These are designed to use smaller rounds of the same diameter bullets. i.e. 22lr in a 223. 30 cal in a 308 etc. They work good but are single shot only.

There are also neck inserts that you can glue into the barrel to make a semi-permanent change. i.e. change 30-06 to 308 or 7.62x39. These get loose and fall out or get fed into the barrel sometimes and cause a major  problem.

I have a 223 encore pistol and use both the 22lr and 22 mag inserts. Use the same gun for squirrel, fox or coyote.

Joe,

Thanks for sharing your experience.  Have you gotten reasonable accuracy from the Mcace cartridge adaptors (not the glue-in inserts)?
