Norma 201 powder in a 9.5x57 MS?
« on: October 27, 2005, 08:20:09 AM »
I have some loading data for the 9.5x57 Mannlicher-Schoenauer from the Mannlicher Collectors newsletter. I have been using IMR4064 with pretty good results although the velocity is a bit on the low side.

One of the other loads listed in the newsletter is for the Norma 201 powder. I just ran across a guy that has that powder on-hand and wonder if anyone has experience with it in any kind of a cartridge that is similar in size.

Norma 201 powder in a 9.5x57 MS?

I have used Norma powders, the N203 I believe, for British 303 loads (180 gn) that spec it out to 2540'/sec.  That is consistent with the VihtaVuori Loads I use for the same bullet weight.  I have found both powders to shoot exceptionally well in the 303 case, which is either 56 or 57mm long depending on who you talk to.  That would make the 303 Brit a 7.65x57mm case, fairly near to your 9.3x57mm.

Norma ammunition has always been very good for me whenever I have had the $ to buy a box or two.  Their powder is an excellent choice for many european cartridges.  You might find that the Norma load allows that cartridge to shoot as it was supposed to.  HTH.  Mikey.
