Why stray away from #11 caps, or at the most the musket caps

Can someone give me some input on why there is so much emphasis being put on the 209 primer ignition system?  For the life of me I just can't figure it out.  I've got the original knight wolverine LK-93 with the #11 cap and I wouldn't change it for the world.  If I had to, I might go to a musket cap but thats it.  I can't recall any misfires or hangfires with my #11 cap.  Is the 209 primer rage just a bunch of crap?  I've read about the mishaps of the 209 primers on the precision rifle website and the need for a smaller primer system to prevent "flyers".  Anyway, someone give me some input.  I wouldn't mind upgrading my gun to a break open model but I don't want to at this point due to the problem with the 209 primers.  My knight wolverine shoots anything I feed it excellently.  My groups are always tight and I can always find primers.  Someone give me a reason to change.  Thanks, Greg

The 209 is not needed unless you are shooting 777 pellets. The pelleted powder is why the 209 became so popular. #11's have always worked fine with all loose powders and even Pyrodex pellets in my rifles. 777 pellets are another story altogether, I have had hang-fires even with 209's. I converted my 209 rifle to .25 ACP with small rifle primers and I am not switching back any time soon.

The 209 is just a hotter primer than needed for any type of powder or pellets. I use the 25 ACP conversion. I don't like the caps, to hard to put on and remove. I have never had a hang fire with my 25 ACP conversion or the 209 primers.  :D

Knight always has experimented with ignition systems. Most people forget that Knight used rifle primers in plastic 38 special cases as a precursor to the Disc system. Knight started it and fought the battle against the ATF alone. Now every inline maker has 209 ignition fired guns. 209's just caught on because of ease of use.

I have a LK-93 that used the #11 caps I like it so much that I bought a case of  #11 caps for it. I have taken several deer with this rifle and it always worked well. To hunt on government property around me you must qualify with the rifle you will be using, The 1 year I did this the requirements where,  one must hit 3 out of 5 shoots on a paper plate at 50 yards. My first shot was center of the plate and the 2 ND was touching the plate, The ranger master looked at me and told me no need for me to shoot any more :grin:

I have since got 2 encore m.l. barrels 1) 209x50 handgun barrel and 2) a 26" 209x45 rifle barrel and the both use 209 primers. I do not see a way you could use a #11 cap on a break action barrel safely and still be reliable

I do know one advantage of using 209 primers, They are more water proof then #11. I have soaked a 209 primer in a glass of water for 2 hours and the thing still fired, the #11 did not
