I am pondering buying a Buffalow Classic. What kind of reviews do you guys give it? What problems have you had with it? Also will the BC handle the +P cartridges? I called H&R and could not get a good detailed answer from their customer service. All I got was if the ammunition is SAMMI approved it is compatible with that gun. Also what improvements have you guys made (if any)? Thanks.

Welcome aboard, Steve!!

The BC will handle anything you can stand to shoot in it, several members here load them to low Ruger #1 data, but the recoil is not for most shooters. I've shot mine with 2400fps nosler partitions and 1750fps 525gr Beartooth Piledrivers, but beware of the recoil, it's stout, to say the least!! The BC is an excellent firearm, probably one of H&R's most popular. I've got several in different configurations, the frame is the same SB2 as found on the Handirifles and Ultras, it's just case colored. I'll let the pics speak for themselves....

I've fired lower Ruger #1 loads in both my Handi and Buffalo Classic 45-70's. Recoil is way too much for me.. I think my brains stopped slushing around in my skull about 3 minutes after pulling the trigger.

I wouldn't shoot too many or any full Ruger #1 loads. I've heard of frame/receiver stretching occuring after some sup'd up rounds being fired through.

Both barrels mic'd out to .452" land and .458" groove at the muzzle. So theres some consistancy in boring.

I love my BC, gets people's attention when hunting or at the range. Shoots like a dream too with silver boxed Winchester 300gr JHP's. I mean hole cutting accuracy.

Thanks for the answers Guys! Now all I need is the money. Any suggestions? I was looking at a marling lever action and the BC. The BC was actually a slightly better fit. Also I find it a better looking gun than the marlin lever actions. Thanks again, and I'll talk to you later.

must add,

The only "bad" I can find with the BC's is-the factory sights dont allow enough range adjustment for heavier slugs at longer ranges. Too much much bullet drop, you end up holding over your target.

A lower front site from Lyman or Williams and a FP model Williams or Smith Buckhorn flipup rear helps alot for making longer shots.

I dont shoot too many heavy slugs(405gr+), only to play around with on groundhogs half out of their holes.
