I have been reading about hr 45/70's for 2 months. Finally got one long wait down here in MS. asked the wife if she would like to see it? she said not really. Great finally something is mine without being hers.  :grin:

:D , Welcome aboard MSredneck, you started with the flagship of the fleet. The wonderful 45-70 in the Handi Rifle is truly a hunters and  riflemans weapon. Pull up a stump, come often and stay late, your among friends here!!!!....<><.... :grin:

Hello, I'm new to the forum also. MSredneck, I see you bought one too. I had to wait for about 3weeks, and got a call from big buck sports in hattiedburg friday.

I picked up and added a 3x9x40 nikon on mine, going to the range sunday.

Have you shot yours yet? How was recoil on it. I'm going to use 300gr JHP from remington in mine. I know my knight ML will not be used much this year.

 For all out there, the MS dept of wildlife add to our primitive weapon season that we could use rifles: pre-1900 design, breech-loading with a exposed hammer in atleast .38 cal. The H&R 1871 rifle is on the list. So it's been crazy trying to find one here in MS.

MSredneck,
Welcome to the club. That news was well received here (about the MS PW season), and I'm sure it boosted the profits at Marlin/H&R this year. I've had my BC about a year and  have worked up all sorts of good loads for it with cast (I cast and reload) and jacketed bullets. You'll have a great time with yours.  One word of advice.  The first time you shoot it, don't do it in a thing cotton shirt.  At least wear a jacket.  The recoil is certainly manageable (I've long hunted mostly with a .270 Weatherby Mag), but, with that crescent steel butt plate, don't treat it too lightly.  But enjoy it. It's a great rifle!

:D Welcome to the club! I'm new to the "BC' also and also from Ms. above Tupelo. I know mine likes those 300 JHP Winchesters. Have not tried the Rem's. Let us know what you think and how they do. Like they said: Come often and stay late.
