To day is the last day of Maryland's special early deer season doe only.
I went in the woods this afternoon about 2:00 pm and at about 4:45 I saw a little 3 Pt buck come walking to my stand, he didn't know I was in the tree but he did figure out something was not quite right and turned
around and went back the way he came. This was the only deer I saw today from my stand at about 6:15 I got out of my stand and went up the hill to the field that I walk along to get to my stand, This Field was full of corn a 1 week ago and is not harvested. When I go to the edge of the field I stood just in side the woods looking and watching, then a buddy of mine called me on my nextel  and I heard something run back in the woods.
At that I started walking along the field at the wood line I look up and see a doe staining in the field about 40 yards from me giving me a great shot and looking right at me, a very quick look around and saw it was safe, I raised the 15' 209x50 and did a quick look trough the scope to double check it was a doe, when I knew for sure it was legal to shoot I moved the cross hairs to just behind the front legs and I took the shot. at the sound of the cannon :-D going off and echoing trough the farm the doe ran off I was able to watch her run when she got to something like 100 yards so just fell over and didn't move. I got to her and found she was small about 50-60 pounds.
Now mind you this was a shot out to 40 yards with a 15" encore and It was totally off hand from a standing position, I was out in the open and didn't have any thing to use as a rest or even hide behind.
The load I used was: 90 grs of goex black powder a lightfield Alpha gold 300 sabot bullet that I got to try for free from North American hunting club and winchester 209 primers. The bullet struck just where I wanted it to but did not exit! The entrance hole was as big as my first finger, the bullet went trough the heart and was big enough to get 3 fingers in but no exit, I will check tomorrow and see if I can find the bullet under the skin.
