lengthening a stock

hey guys.....just wondering if i could get some input on the best way to go about lengthening  a stock on a marlin 15Y so that the LOP was more like 13" instead of 12".  obviously it doesn't need to be a recoil pad.....just longer so it fits me better.  i'd thought about a new stock from one of marlins other rimfires but i'd rather stick with the factory 15Y stock.  any ideas would be helpful as i've never tried this before.    thanks in advance....tg

True, it doesn't need a recoil pad, but adding one is the easiest way to accomplish your goal without a lot of wood finish work. The small limbsaver grind-to-fit is easy to work and looks great. A slip-on that fits good would also be worth considering.

Another consideration is to add a full size take-off stock from another Marlin bolt rifle, some of them are inletted the same for different models and may work. I have a gray laminate off a 917VS that may be a candidate if you find interest in this option and there are/have been several stocks for sale at RFC that may work for ya.

thanks for your feedback tim.  your grey laminate stock sounds great but i don't have any idea if it would fit.  i called marlin but they were not very helpful or enthusiastic.  the girl i talked to sounded like she'd rather be at the mall than answering my inquiry about stocks.  i guess if another stock would fit, i'd still have the opening for the clip to deal with.  any ideas there?  thanks again....tg

It shouldn't be hard to fabricate a sheet metal plate to cover the mag well, it's already inletted and has mount screw holes for the mag well bezel. The biggest issue for the 917VS stock would be that it's for a bull barrel and the 915Y is probably a standard contour, so there'd be a gap. Maybe your query at RFC will yield the answer.
