Well i thought i'd have some fun and adk y'all which gun(s) use for deer from the NEF/H&R line up. I figured this could last at least a dozen posts given that buying a handi usually results in another and another and another and i could type this multiple times, so this should be a fun thread to have.

As for me i've got my acually only center-fire Ultra Hunter in .308 (as y'all probably know by now) but since then the Nikon came off and now it sports a Simmons Pro-diamond 1.5-5x32. Also for no real viable reason i some camoflauged it with Allen Burlap, nothing special just a strip loose around the scope another around the grip and one more around the foreend.

OK, here goes! 45/70 Handy, 4x Tasco, nylon sling with sholder pad, nylon cartridge holder.
Always been fascinated with the cartridge, now I have one. Very satisfied with the rifle over all! Better than I thought it would be!
I want to try a 2x scope, think that will serve me better. 4x seems too much for short range.
The cartridge holder has worked well, and I would like to get a leather cheek pad with cartridge holder. This item has been discussed here already.
My other rifle is a muzzleloader, it holds very well offhand. Sometimes I gotta choose, tough job!

My new favorite rifle, the 45/70 BC with a 3x9 Nikon Buckmasters. It is an amazing rifle.

Hmmm, that's a tough one!!! I'd have ta say one of the 45-70s right now, but it depends on where I go to hunt.....if'n I head to some of the walk-ins to clearcuts on gated roads, I'd have ta pic the .270 or .30-06 UltraComp or maybe the .280.....or maybe the .25-06.....or maybe even the .338-06!! That's if'n I even get to go this year!!!

45-70 HandiRifle, my 30-30 Handi, or if the woods get real thick, a smoothbore Pardner w/Red Dot or a Tracker I shotgun, 12 or 20 gauge, with Brenneke-Rottwiel slugs, OR, my special 19" barrelled .280 Remington HandiRifle w/peep sights, aka "Thunderboomer"!!!....<><....

Since I don't get to hunt with a rifle in Delaware I'd have to say my Topper Deluxe Slug. !2ga with a ported 24"barrel and open sights. Just like a tracker2 except it's ported and comes with a recoil pad and the topper black stock and nickle receiver. This is one of the finest deer getting tools ever constructed by man. I have a feeling that when I get to spread out into another state or two the 45-70,357mag or 30-06ultracomp will see some action.

I cant name just one either!!!
here in Connecticut we can only use a shotgun on state land but centerfires are allowd on private if you are on more than 10 acres.
SO,...I have two selections:
My 12ga Ultra slug for state lands and my 357 Maxi for private. Both carry the same Leupold 1X4 VXII SHOTGUN scope.

That centerfire choice was mighty hard, I REALLY LOVE my 45-70 and now I have a 500 to break in....... I am glad I have multiple tags!!!! :-D  :-D

"thunderboomer" i like that short barrel= loud bang i take it.

I recamoed my .308 now liek the whole forend is covered and 80% or so of the scope is, kinda looks like something outta "enemy at the gates" :). any of youse guys camod your guns?

There's a fairly complete list in the FAQ with the twist rates of most all the Handi calibers that have been available at one time or another. The .30-40 is a rechamber, the .338-06 is a rechamber/rebore.

We have an early muzzleloader season here in Va. so the huntsman will get the nod.

Wont have a lot of time to hunt during the centerfire rifle season, but time spent will be with the 30-06 handi.

Took both guns to the range yesterday just to check zero....They are ready!!

Mine is a plain jane .270 with a 3 x9 Elite.    Still trying to tune it in, but will probably be using the 115 grain Recoil Management Loads at close range because it shoots them well.
If I can get it dialed in with full loads, this will be my full time deer rifle.

My 45-70 is quickly taking a back seat to the Super Mag.

My plain-jane 45-70 with a sling from an "assault rifle" that I used to own.  Factory open sites.  Ejector mod'd to spring extractor.

...farely simple unit.  I prefer to stalk my deer in dense pine and brush thickets.  Open sites and fast handling rifles go a long ways farther then scoped long action rifles.

I carry a sidegun too just incase I catch a case of the fumble fingers in the cold.  It being either my 10.5" Virginian Dragoon .44mag or my 8" Colt Python .357mag.

The stepson will be using a 30-30 Handi that I bought him.  Open sights and inexpensive sing too..

I camoed my handirifle.  Just the stock and forearm though.  Not the metal parts.  I did a "home/bubba" job on mine.  It does not look fantastic but it looks OK.  And, it works well.  I figure that I can always replace the stocks and forend with some nice wood if I ever want to.

Favorite is synthetic 30-06 with Simmons .44 Mag Scope. Like the short barrel. I have a 25-06 Ultra, but don't use it as much. 30-06 is my go to.

I have a few, but my two favorites are the new 30-30 that i just tried out for the first time today, it is what i plan to use this year almost exclusively...the .270 Ultra-Comp gives you a rush of muzzle blast but it is accurate, very well made, balances nice, comes to shoulder nice, and kicks about like a 22-250....plus it looks so damned cool.....but the 45-70 with the 30mm red dot scope is hard to beat here in the eastern woods....plan to get a tracker 20-guage slug fun for next year and a 22 hornet for woodchucks this spring....I am keeping the 30-30 open sighted, the 270 has a thompson center 3-9x40 scope, the 45-70 has a large BSA red dot sight, the 280 handi has a tc 1.5-5.4x32 scope..... 8)
