In Alabama you can shoot 2 deer a day (one of which can be a buck)!

Looks like the 45-70 for me, or the 357 Max if I get it together, or maybe one of my 35 Remingtons, or maybe the Win 1895 Lever in 30-06....hmmmm, I usually just open the safe and pick the one that's screams the loudest "Take me!!!!"

Hey 35 Rem, besides having a great screen name you can shoot 2 deer a day!!!! Wow!, Some guys have all the luck. In most of Maine you get to shoot one deer a year!
My camp is not in what they call the "Expanded Area" so if your lucky and a decent hunter or some combination of both and get a deer with a bow in October you cannot hunt deer with a gun in November or a muzzleloader the first two weeks of December. You are through deer hunting until next year!!! Enjoy what you have and count your blessings....<><....

edited for spelling...

Right now I am using an Ultra Light 243 Handi.  Killed 5 deer last year.  I am considering trading it for a 308 Handi survivor w/bull barrel.  I do not want to send the rifle to the factory right now due to the season is in. :-D

I'm quite shocked how..Few standard calibers there are being used. Standard meaning like .30 cal guns. More of these odd .338 ect. ones

My deer Handi (the only one I own) is a 7mm-08 plaiin Jane handi-rifle.  I plan to do some of the accuracy upgrades to it and maybe redo the stock later this year, after deer season.

not sure

Not sure.  I was thinking of maybe just sanding it down and then adding some oil to bring out the grain and then maybe stain it Cherry or some darker color, then revarnishing, or maybe painting it black and revarnishing it, or maybe doing some more intricate work, like engraving.  I'm not sure yet.

Are you redoing one?

MSP Ret,

We are lucky to be able to take so much game, if you can.  The down side is that there are so many deer, it's pretty dangerous to drive after dark.  You have to really pay attention, those deer will run out in front of ya!

I love the 35 Remington.  My first was a Remington Model 8 in about 85-90% condition.  Got it for $200.  I was hooked.  That really is a neat gun.  Then a got a Remington Model 141 Pump for $250, similar condition.  The most recent is a Marlin 336CS, uncheckered.  All great guns.  The 35 is a great round.
Considereing rechambering a Handi to it, if it works out for Krochus.

my poison is 2 plain jane handis one in 44 mag one in 45-70.the 44mag has taken eleven deer with not one having to be tracked. the 45-70 is still pretty new but it has taken 1 deer so far. The first deer i killed was with an old h&r 30-30 20 gauge combo that i later bought from my brother i was all of thirteen, wish i still had that gun

Same ol' 45/70 I've been shooting deer with for around 14 years .....but now it sports a new curly maple stock, modified to a straight grip, that I got from Gunstocks Inc, and a new Leupold 2X-7X.  Same load though...400 gr Speer FP at 1750 fps.  Backup/alternate rifle is my Krag.

Need to finish that roll of durned film quicklike, and then I'm supposed to e-mail the pic to someone, might be you(I have the PM saved), and they said they'd post it.  I give up trying anything with this ol' MAC of mine; except e-mail and regular internet stuff.
