King - they might not make good deer loads.  None of the bullet manufacturers that I know of make a 44 caliber rifle bullet (for the 444) in the 180-200 gn weight, they are pistol bullets and may not hold up at all to rifle velocities.  Accuracy might be poor and the bullet too frangible for the impact velocities, leaving a wounded animal or a missed shot.

I wasn't really foolin' with ya when I asked if you were going varmit hunting.  I'm sure a clean shot through the lungs at any accurate distance (for both you and the rifle) would have an instant and quite telling effect with 444 loads at those speeds, but on a shoulder it may not penetrate.

The 240 grain bullet is just very fine and excellent for whitetail - some shooters have referred to it as hitting like the hammer of Thor - you betcha it does.  I don't think you can really improve on the effect of that cartridge by using lighter weight bullets.  That cartridge really begins to shine with heavier jacketed bullets and hits like a ton of bricks with the even heavier hardcast slugs.

I re-read your post about your friend's bullet weight preferences and continue to recommend either of the loads I previously provided but good luck none the less and I hope your friend has a good hunting season with those loads.  Mikey.

I personally would not use a pistol bullet traveling that fast too risky of a blown up bullet & no penatration if bone is hit. Maybe a hard cast gascheck or a gold dot or some other priemium bullet. I tried some light bullets for funnys & got horable groups/patterns I would recomend the 240 or 265 hornady.
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

If'n I was wanting to use a 200gr bullet for a deer load I think I'd consider reducing the velocity a bit. Here is some info from a different forum where the gentleman used blue dot.

200gr xtp
15gr  1474 fps
16gr  1603 fps
17gr  1607 fps
18gr  1688 fps
19gr  1804 fps
20gr  1906 fps
22gr  1925 fps
23gr 1969 fps
24gr  2127 fps

The fellow said he tested up to 27grs but velocity increased little and extraction became sticky. I haven't tried any of these loads so the usuall use a your oun risk would apply here. I would think that 1800-1900fps muzzle velocity would be as fast as I'd want to wack a whitetail with that light a bullet. More like 44mag carbine velocity.

good luck

What do expect to gain using such a light bullet in a 444 Personally i wouldnt bother with any bullet lighter then 275 grain in one.
