How to remove contender hammer
« on: October 31, 2005, 08:29:19 AM »
Hi guys,  I find that the firing pins are loose in my contender hammer (not the G2, but the previous style).  My manual says it's a factory job.  I know if I send it in to TC, they'll fix it free.  I'm just wondering, can someone who knows tell me how to remove the hammer so I can send it in?  I appreciate your help.  Thanks in advance.

To take the hammer out you remove the grip and push out the hammer pivot pin.  You need a small pin that will fit inside the hammer, to hold the spring in place when you reinstall the hammer.

Why would you not just send the entire frame and let them do it. If you are sending the hammer (?) anyway. The hammer by the way....does not have firing pins in it. They are located in the frame bushing on the breech face.

Hey Menner:

I tried to send a hammer in to Thompson-Center for repairs, and they refused. They told me I had to send in the complete frame, that they would not send a hammer to me.

I talked to several people up there via phone, and they told me "no way" that I would have to send the frame in. What happened to my hammer, a small  piece of the "spur" on the hammer broke off. For now, I just put a hammer extender on it, and it cocks and shoots fine.

Let me know what strings to pull or whatever, maybe someone up there will fix my hammer or sell me one. They are simple to put in, nothing to it.

All the best, and let me know something, please. I'm curious. They should be proud of me, I'm a very good customer.
