Heavy Match Bullets for 338 Win Mag?
« on: October 31, 2005, 08:58:57 PM »
Wondering about something - With the 338 Lapua seeing great success as a sniper rifle, very heavy boat tailed match bullets are now made in 338 caliber.  I'm wondering if they'd be any good in the 338 Win Mag, ie could they be loaded to fit the OAL of the round, and would the 338 Win Mag have enough capacity to launch them without a disproportionate drop in velocity over the standard weights?  Anyone try this, particularly in a repeating rifle?

And the next thought would be whether a decent load would be usable in a BAR?

I own and shoot the 338 Rem Ultra Mag. I also go by the load books for it and If I were you I would do the same. There should be a load for the heavy bullets in the great Win 338. :D
