It looks pretty good. The only problem is, at least from the picture posted, that the bottom of the site looks flat. In order to mount it you would probably have to have a curved base with a flat top machined to affix to the gun to then place the site on top.

That could be costly and then the rear site might sit too high to work well with standard front sites.

If that fits the contour of the barrel, then yes it would fit with no problem.  That is the reason H&R and Smith Enterprizes has a contoured flat base with the dovetail cut.

In this picture you can see the contour of the base

I believe the sight that you pictured from MVA is for an octagon barrel and to be mounted in the flats.

jon it looks like you could contour the base its self idont think it would need much to keep it level.

Bernie, that's a nice alternate to the Smith sight, but for my old eyes, would be much too close to my shootin eye to use the open sight notch, same problem I'd have with the Smith. The peep part would be great, though.

After checking with the MVA web site, that sight doesn't appear to be available from them any more....

dodd3 iffin it were me, I would just have a gunsmith cut a nice flat, almost like a very large dovetail for that MVA Rough Rider sight.  It would then look almost like it was ment to be  8)

Hmmm, you could also remove the slots from a $7 weaver #82 rail and use longer screws to mount the sight on top of it.  The taller .584" front sight would be needed, though......I think! 8)

Tim one must use this Sight Hieght Calculator before placing any more height on a barrel sight for proper placement etc.

One reason that H&R put the tall front globe on the Buffalo Classic is because they put the Williams rear peep sight on the receiver.  The barrel has that upraised area (chamber/breach) that rises above the barrel line.

Of course not much to the naked eye, but the taper of the barrel is there.  Some have done well with putting the Smith sight right there TDC of the chamber afixed to the screw holes for the scope rail.  Not where I myself would put my barrel sights.

As one can see by where the Barrel Sights are located on these Springfield Trapdoors, Sharps and Rolling Block Rifles.  I would rather have my rifles look period correct with sights and their placements.

But that is me  :-D

Now IF and only IF I get my hands on another two Buffalo Classic rifles.....     You guy's just might convince me I need to buy some more of them for some projects I have thought about.... gonna leave you all in suspense

Don't think I need a sight calculator to tell me what front sight I need when the WGRS sight with the aperture all the way to the top using the standard .584" tall front sight put 405gr loads 6" low at 50yds!!! Bernie had a similar problem, tweren't just mine.

When referring to the BC, period correct is pretty much a moot point from a hunting point of view, having sights that aquire quickly and naturally isn't.....for me. The Smith and the MVA sight are an incongruous combination, if you ask me, specially for old eyes, the peep should be close to the eye, the notched open sight needs to be on the barrel. Somewhere in the middle might work on a different rifle, though.

I love the look of the long brass scopes.  Before I bought the Smith, I was looking at the ones at Dixie Gunworks.  Their mounting system is unfortunately set up for hex barrels and I wasn't up for the expense of both the scope and the barrel mods it would take to mount it.

tim the sight is still on there site its in the sharps vernier section.as for hight calculators for sights i've always found that they always give a setting when the rear sight is at half its max hight when in my opinion it should be with the rear sight near the bottom of its sight range.i have never had any probs using this to work out the hight of the front sight .as you said tim you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out the the front sight on the buff classic is to high.jon that putting a flat on the top of the barrel is food for thought, ian have you had a chance to try the new front globe yet.i think it will work just fine.
