Been working slow at making calls since I'm just learning. But here's my latest. It's a padauk wood with a strip of copperhead hide around the side, copper over glass. I named it my 'Copperhead Call'

I've seen something similar with a slate surface but never copper.  Do you have to have a special striker to get the sound right with that material?

I think it's ironwood that's supposed to be the best striker for a copper pot. Didn't have any though. So just tried it out with the variety of strikers I had. Sounded good to me.

Hmmmm, oh, okay. Thought that was the general idea of it all.

Right now the call making is on hold here. Ended up having health problems due to the dust. So I need to move my lathe to a storage room.

I had to put all my hunting on hold. I had knee surgury on Jan 10th i fell 4 times that night with my walking sticks as my nephew calls them. And one of the times it hurt bad my foot. So i call the Dr. the next mor. and told him i though i broke a bone in my foot. He said just wait until you come in for your check up he said the hurting is coming from the surgury. Well went Monday for my check up and all this time my foot has been hurting. So he said let get a xray. So i waited for him to come back into the room and he said you was RIGHT you did have a broke bone ... You have 2 broke toe's  So the leg i had surgury my foot has 2 broke toe's. He made me get a spe. shoe to wear and took me off work for another month. lol HOPE you are getting better. Cant wait to me on that Pro staff.VM

Cory, if you do a online search using Google, or probably any other search engine, you'll find sites that'll give you some directions.

To make the pots, the easiest equipment to use is a lathe. But some do use a drill press. As for the slate, most buy it pre-cut from a quary in Pennsylvania.

I've seen a few of the turtle shell slates. They are really cool. Just make sure it's legal in your state to possess one.
