I was using 120 Nosler BTs in my 6.5x55, but I just found a load with 140gr hornady ssts and IMR 4350 that is grouping 1/2moa, so when my bts are gone, I'll be using the heavier bullet with the better ballistic Coefficient and penetration. I was only shooting the 120s because they were more accurate than other 140 gr bullets I tried, but now that the SST 140 are shooting that good, I will probably use that load for almost all my deer hunting and maybe even some pigs.

Good hunting,
Brian

I have a Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight in 6.5x55. I shoot Nosler 125 grain Partitions for hunting whitetail deer. My rifle shoots them wonderfully and they are pure poison on deer. My son has a Model 96 Mauser that is one of the Kimber sporter conversions. His rifle shoots 140 grain NPs very well. They work nicely on deer too.

I use the 120s in a pistol, but if I were using a rifle, I'd use the 140's. The pistols need all the help they can get with velocity, but it's nice to have the extra bullet mass too.

For deer and hogs, that cheap 140 Corelokt is tough.   No "bullet failures" on large and small animals.

I use the premuim bullet that does the job first time, every time.  And it has stood the test of time.   140gr Rem Core Lokts.  All you have to do is stick it in the right place.  Plus they don't cost a lot.
If you can't stick it in the right place, consider golf.

IN my 6.5 (264 win mag), I use 120gr barnes x bullets. I have had good accuracy and performance on deer. I only have a few left though, and next year I'll be trying 140gr nosler partitions

I had been using 120 grain Ballistic tips in my Ruger M77 MkII .260 up until this year. I didn't feel like spending the extra money on premium bullets so I bought some Remington 140 grain Core Lokt and danged if they didn't group better than the BT's!

I did not see a choice for my fav 6.5 bullet the 129 grain Hornady SP. It splits the difference between the 120 and 140 grain choices and will do the job on most game.

140 gr. SSTs over a dose of RL-15 and lit up with a CCI 200 in my .260 Rem. works about as well as anything I've tried.

This is my first year with the encore 260 so I'm not done playing with loads yet.  I tried hornady 120 sp and then went hornady 140 sp interlock and got better accuracy and the 140's did a heck of a job on an 8 pointer.
be safe and god bless

The wife used 46.8 gr. of IMR-4831 for 2,841 fps. using the new 120 gr. Barnes TSX bullet.  I am loading the older 130 gr. Barnes TSX bullets in my .264 Winchester and 6.5mm Remington Magnum's.  Deadly accurate.  Lawdog

i shoot a 6.5x55 swedish mauser scout rifle and a sporter. i have used the 140gr sierra game king and the 140gr. nosler partition. they both knocked down three deer and three pigs, one shot each. dead is dead! but the game king was very accurate! half inch groups were normal, the partitions went about an inch. i think the 125gr. partition. might be a winner too! the recoil from the 140,s is very light, and the 125,s could only be less, the other one i would love to try is the failsafe. is it available in component form? i have never seen it in this caliber.
i love this cartrige! it does,nt kick hard and hits everything i aim it at! i have a butt ugly centery arms sporter, with the stepped barrel and plastic stock. i put on good mounts and a timney trigger. with an old 3x9 tasco scope! and it shoots half inch groups. i also have same action in a better stock with a 2-7scout scope, and timney trigger. it only shoots one inch groups, but handles like a dream! my hunting is usually short range shooting, under 100yards. i would be comfortable shooting deer or hogs to at least 200 yards if i had perfect conditions.
my only complaint is that it's too much for my contender carbine.
good luck.

I shoot a Remington Mountain Rifle chambered for the .260.  My favorite bullet, maybe I should say my rifle's favorite bullet is the 129gr. Hornady Interlock.  Accuracy at the bench is consistently under moa.

I had a buddy who sold his 6.5 x 55 rifle give me a box of 140 grain trophy bonded bear claw bullets. How do they do on deer/hogs?
