hello everyone, i just joined the website. i love shooting and i am looking for somthing pretty accurate and simple to work on. i already have many guns but i was looking at getting a single shot and what better than a handi rifle. i'd like somthing cheap to shoot but with more range than the 22 or 17hmr. i'd like to get either the survivor in .223 or the ultra varmint in .223 or 204 ruger. i know the ruger would cost more to shoot but i do load my own ammo and would love to be able to hit stuff out past 600 yards. also, how hard are these guns to upgrade/work on. this gun will get shot a lot so how accurate can i expect. personal experiences would be great with these rifles or maybe i should be looking at a different rifle. but anyway, i'm in this forum because i'm cheap, any info would be great

I have both 204 R and ultra 203 enjoy both just not enough time to

Welcome to the forum tssievert. If you are cheap then you have come to the right place. I dare say it would be very difficult to find more bang for your buck than what you get with these H&R/NEF firearms. As far as accuracy is concerned I think that they are on a par with most any mass produced firearm on the market today. Most Handis shoot 1-1/2" groups or better out of the box. Some will shoot MOA or better and occasionally one wont shoot worth a damn. (Like I said, on a par with any of the mass produced guns.) The beauty of these rifles are in there simplicity. They are easy to tinker with and with a little tinkering any of them are capable of MOA or better accuracy. Check out the Stickies and FAQ's at the top of this forum for information on how to get the most accuracy out of these guns.

Check out the stickys, there's a bunch of info in there, feel free to ask questions, you can bet that we've been there, done it and have an opinion on it!!! :wink: The .204 Ruger is the long range winner of the varmint calibers with the exception of maybe the .243. Check out the comparisons at www.remington.com tween the .204, .223 and .22-250, you see the .204 is the clear winner, in trajectory and energy, that streamlined .204" bullet just has a much better BC than the short fat .224".

was just looking at an article on the .204 ruger and found some info ya'll might find interesting
