Trophy Fallow and Red Stag
« on: November 01, 2005, 02:50:03 PM »
Took my two boys (10 & 7) out to the Texas Hill Country this weekend for the TPWD Youth WT Deer opening weekend.

Seen a few bucks, but all were either too young (oldest was maybe 3 1/2), spread not past the ears, etc. So we passed on the WT and spent a day on exotics.

My youngest shot this young Stag with his NEF Youth Handi-Rifle .223 Rem loaded with 55gr. TBBC. 60 yard shot placed behind the shoulder. He ran maybe 60-65 yards and expired.

Oldest son got on a trophy Fallow buck. He used his Remington 700 Youth Rifle .243 Win loaded with 85gr Sierra GameKing BTHP.

Two shots. First was within 45 yards, but bullet was partially deflected by some cedar brush and creased the buck behind his shoulder. Second shot was maybe 50 yards away dead in the shoulder. Fallow ran up hill 40 yards and fell.

After my boys were finished with their hunts, I had some time to go out hunting for my trophy....

Rock squirrel.

Your eyesight and sanity are fine. :D

Lots of rubs all over the place as he has WT, Fallow, Axis, Red Deer, and Elk. Both the WT and Fallow have been tearing up the trees and have begun to spare.
